Academic Interest:
Dr. Carroll enjoys teaching, reading about and discussing any aspect of rhetoric, particularly semiotics. Coupled with her curiosity about rhetoric is her enthusiasm for American Literature; she is drawn to Flannery O'Connor's and Walker Percy's works, and considers William Faulkner the finest writer America has yet produced. As Coordinator of University Writing, she was very involved in the creation of the Writing Concentration Program. Dr. Carroll's research efforts focus on pedagogy and semiotics.
Dr. Carroll currently serves on the Executive Council for Conference of College Teachers of English; additionally, she holds membership in National Council Teachers of English, Conference for College Composition and Communication, South Central Modern Language Association, Phi Delta Kappa,
Christianity and Literature, and the Walker Percy Society. She serves on the Intercollegiate Ethics
Bowl Committee, the Ethics across the Curriculum Committee, and the University Day Committee, and is the Faculty Advisor for Alpha Lambda Delta, the Freshman Honor Society. In 2003, her colleagues selected Dr. Carroll to receive the Earl Brown Distinguished Faculty Award.
In addition to coordinating the University Writing Program, which involves working with adjunct faculty, coordinating all placement exams, and planning and assessing writing programs, Dr. Carroll regularly teaches the following courses:

Personal Interest:
Dr. Carroll is an avid reader who enjoys sharing her life with her husband, John, and their four children and eight grandchildren. She also enjoys travel, antique restoration, and interior decorating. She is an amateur photographer who enjoys entering her photography, homemade relish, and pickles in the Texas State Fair.
