Educational Background: Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition, Texas Christian University, 2003 M.A. in English with literature specialization, Angelo State University, 1995 B.A. in English with a minor in Spanish, Angelo State University, 1991 Academic Interest: Dr. Neeley enjoys teaching a variety of courses within the writing specialization of the English major, including technical writing, writing in the social sciences, writing in the humanities, research methods, women’s rhetoric, and advanced grammar. Dr. Neeley’s research interests include composition theory, classical rhetoric, and cultural studies. Dr. Neeley enjoys doing student- and classroom-based pedagogical research and is interested in investigating the connections between cultural studies and feminist ethics theory to re-envision critical pedagogy for writing studies. Her dissertation uses educational anthropology to analyze the feminist critique of critical pedagogy within composition studies. Dr. Neeley serves as General Editor of the national literary magazine Aries, published by Texas Wesleyan University every summer. She is also the author of Academic Literacy, a textbook for first-year composition (2nd ed. Longman, 2004).
Dr. Neeley holds membership in the National Council Teachers of English, Conference for College Composition and Communication, the Rhetoric Society of America, the Modern Language Association, and the National Coalition of Women Scholars in the History of Rhetoric. She is also a founding member of the National Campaign for Tolerance, sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center. At Texas Wesleyan, she serves as a designated freshman advisor, chairs the Faye C. Goostree Women’s Symposium committee, and serves on the student publications committee. Dr. Neeley regularly teaches the following courses:
Personal Interests: When Dr. Neeley is not at Texas Wesleyan, you will find her writing grants for non-profit organizations and spending time with her husband and their two little boys. She also enjoys camping with friends and family, reading poetry, remembering the farm, boating, and watching the sun set over Lake Benbrook. |
